How To Make Organic Marshmallows!
Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 10:45PM
Have you ever looked for organic marshmallows at the store? I have and I have never found any! I have found organic "fluff", but that is the closest I have seen.
I must warn you, after you've had these, a store bought marshmallow will never enter your house again! Pair this with some organic hot chocolate and you have a delicious treat!
So, after watching the episode of Good Eats with Alton Brown (above), I decided I could take his recipe and make my own organic marshmallow. Yes, it can be done!
Here are the ingredients listed on The food Network:
- 3 packages unflavored gelatin
- 1 cup ice cold water, divided
- 12 ounces granulated sugar, approximately 1 1/2 cups
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- Nonstick spray
- Go Bio Organic Gelatin (haven't seen this in stores, just online)
- Wholesome Sweetners Organic Sugar
- Wholesome Sweetners Organic Light Corn Syrup
- Simply Organic Vanilla Extract
- Wholesome Sweetners Organic Powdered Sugar
- Rapunzel Organic Corn Starch
- Pam Organic Non-Stick Spray
I must warn you, after you've had these, a store bought marshmallow will never enter your house again! Pair this with some organic hot chocolate and you have a delicious treat!

I'm not against a non-organic marshmallow (they sneak into our house somehow and disappear into our mouths ^~^), but this is wonderful. I like the alternative of organic. Is the organic gelatin stuff expensive online?
My entire family requests these now (non-organic family members too). They are just so good!
The gelatin is not expensive in my opinion. It was $1.79 for 6 sheets. I believe a sheet is the equivalent of a package of the other kind of gelatin.
I hope you try this recipe - let me know what you think if you do!
I am so tempted to try this. The only reason I hesitate is the fact that I keep gaining weight with this pregnancy. I am afraid if I make them I will eat them. We will see if I have enough will power.
Lorrie - Don't do it if you are afraid you'll eat them... you will!
The recipe says it will make 9 dozen! 108 marshmallows just staring at you won't help LOL ;)
I've got to try these. I've been wanting to make marshmallows for quite some time now and I know my kids would love these! (I stopped buying store-bought kind this year. I don't even like marshmallows--but I've heard homemade are so good!)

Jennifer - these taste nothing like the marshmallows you get in the store, they are so much better. I hope you do try it!!!
Question..has anyone tried "roasting" these over a fire?
