What Do You Do When you Get Sick?

My 4 year old has caught has the flu :(

This got me thinking of making sure my “cold care kit” is up to date. My cold care kit is a box of items I keep together so if we catch a cold, we can grab it and have everything we need to help us feel better all in one box!

One of the things I love to have on hand are Sambazon's Antioxidant Elixirs. Drinking these have fought off colds from getting worse for me. I don't know what it is, maybe the 600% daily Vitamin C, but they taste great, especially the Passion fruit! Other drinks I like have around when sick are:

Keep The Germs Away
I also keep Seventh Generation Disinfectant Wipes or Disinfectant Surface Spray in my kit to clean door handles and places that are touched by lots of hands.

If we need to go anywhere, I bring Clean Well Disinfectant Spray or Wipes or Nature’s Paradise Organic Spray in my purse. I personally avoid items that contain triclosan. clean well

Keeping The fever At Bay
This is my least favorite. Fever reducers are full of ingredients I try to avoid, but sometimes they are necessary. When looking for fever reducers, I always at least get the “dye free” kind. At least I can avoid something.

Coughing, Sneezing & Sour Throat Care
There are a few natural brands of cough syrup that I use. Hyland’s Cough & Cold (don’t love the sodium benzoate though), Boiron Products (again with the Sodium Benzoate), & Zarbee’s (get your $2 off coupon online).

badger chest rub A little organic chest rub is great to have too. I like Badger Organic Chest Rub, and Nature’s Baby Organic Chest Rub.

If I am congested, I sprinkle a little Organic Eucalyptus oil in the hot shower and breathe it in.

For a sore throat, we also do popsicles. Funny, I never hear any complaining about this. Here are some organic popsicles we love:

Or we make our own with this stainless steel popsicle mold.

When I get a sore throat, I like to gargle with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar; it’s like gargling salad dressing, but it sure helps me! I also like to drink hot apple cider or tea with lemon.

Of course a good thermometer, and lots of tissues are vital. I also like to have a small washcloth in it in case we need to wet it with cool water to cool our fevers.

What are some ways you deal with colds?
