Easy Organic Living Update & Giveaway!

The Easy Organic Living group is now up to 2,482 members and growing. If you haven't signed up and started one of the challenges yet, you still can! Here is a run down of the challenges and my progress:

SAVE A DOLLAR HERE, SHIFT A DOLLAR THERE CHALLENGE
For a full week, make a conscientious effort to save money by using some of the tips given by Healthy Child, Healthy World. Then shift your savings to buy organic food.

I already do most of the tips they gave, but the bulk bins were not something that I did, so I ventured in there and found that a lot of items are much cheaper in bulk. For example, organic raisins. I had previously been buying organic raisins in packaging. Look at the difference in price (at Whole Foods).

  • Organic Bulk Raisins $3.69/lb
  • Newmans' Own Organic Raisins $2.99 (6oz) or $7.97/lb

If you aren't shopping your bulk bins, check them out, they really can save you a ton of money!

GIVE A MEAL A MAKEOVER
Prepare a meal for your family that includes at least one organic ingredient

Since I made the switch to organic a few years ago, I have adopted all my recipes with organic ingredients. It took a while to replace everything, and I still haven't found an organic replacement for Miracle Whip for a tuna sandwich (I'll probably have to learn how to make it myself), but once I found and was comfortable with a whole new set of products, it became second nature.

INVENT A SNACK
Create a healthy snack using at least one organic ingredient and then share your invention.

Total fail on my part here. I'm lost without a cookbook. I am not creative in the cooking department at all. Something I hope to change, as I would really love to learn to cook.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT, SO WHAT ARE YOU EATING?
Spend a few minutes this week learning about your food. Read a label!

This is my favorite challenge. Although I did this a few years ago, this is one thing I remember that completely through me into going organic. I would spend hours in the grocery store reading labels, and I finally figured out that going organic would same me a lot of time. I still read labels, but I know that there are a bunch of things NOT in organic foods that makes my life easier.

Join me on completing these challenges and you can win the gift pack shown above.
