Homemade Organic Play Dough Recipe Using GLOB Paints

Looking for rainy day activities you can do inside during April showers? Making organic play dough is fun and easy to do and can keep the kids attention for hours.

Rather than using artificial dyes like most recipes call for, I used Glob natural paint packets made from natural fruit and vegetable pigments to get the colors I wanted. This was an easy, less mess option and it turned out great.

Here is what you'll need:

  • 1 1/4 cup of organic flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 2 tsp of organic olive oil
  • 2 tsp of cream of tarter
  • Glob paints (6 packets)

Add 1 cup of the organic flour, salt, cream of tarter and olive oil in a medium size bowl or mixer bowl. Reserve 1/4 cup of flour for later. Heat water in tea kettle, microwave or saucepan (use caution when using hot water).

Add the hot water to the flour, salt, cream of tarter and olive oil slowly and carefully. Alternatively, you may put the ingredients in a saucepan and cook and stir on low until it reaches play dough consistency.

Knead or use your dough hook on your kitchen mixer to mix the dough. Knead for 3-4 minutes or until mix looks firm like play dough.

Use the remaining flour to flour your counter, baking sheet or parchment paper. Remove dough from the bowl and place on the floured surface to cool. Once cooled, divide into 6 equal sized balls. Knead the dough with the remaining flour for about 1 minute.

Add 1 packet of Glob paints to each ball and mix in your hand until well blended.

Store each color in an air tight container. If your play dough seems to by drying out and crack and not seem as soft just add a little oil (start with a 1/2 teaspoon) to get it workable again.

Have fun!
